Tenant Fights Eviction Over Window Display

A tenant in Oregon is fighting her possible eviction over a flag display in the court of public opinion.

The woman, who says that she is trying to honor the military, told the news that she received a warning from her apartment manager that her flag, displayed in a window, must come down.

A building management policy prohibits colored draperies in the windows.

While the threat of eviction looms for this grandmother, it does not appear to be an easy case for the landlord.

First, the tenant claims that she was given specific permission to display the flag in a window when she first moved in six years ago. The flag has been displayed in the window the entire time.

An attorney speaking to reporters confirmed that this delay in enforcement may make it impossible to evict the tenant on those grounds.

Finally, according to the report, the lease does not mention anything about flags.
