Tenant Awarded $1 Million for Slip and Fall

Daily Newspaper shutterstock_1272343108A jury has awarded a North Bergen, New Jersey tenant $1 million against her landlord after the woman fell at the rental property.

According to a report, the tenant slipped on ice while walking down the front steps of the building. The tenant’s attorney alleged that the landlord was aware of the icy conditions, and that a downspout was allowing water to collect around the front entrance.

The tenant’s attorney says the woman suffered significant injuries. The jury also included damages for lost wages.

The attorney, Lewis Greenberg of Fuchs, Greenberg and Sapin in Jersey City, noted that the verdict is a reminder to landlords that they have a duty to keep tenants safe.
