Landlords May Evict Tenants Over Bedbugs

Managers of a highrise building in Elkhart, Indiana are battling with tenants over a bedbug infestation.

The management is taking a hard line with tenants, some of whom they say are hampering the efforts to eradicate the bugs, which have included heat treatments and a bug-sniffing dog.  Managers told the local news that at some point, the issue will result in uncooperative tenants looking for a new place to live.

The housing director explains that tenants are required to prepare their units for exterminators, and to follow specific directions concerning cleaning in the effort to gain the upper hand over the bugs.

However, some tenants aren’t following orders, according to the report.

In response, management has initiated a new “three-strikes” policy.  After three written warnings, violators risk being evicted.

Hopefully, these evicted tenants won’t take any bedbugs with them when they go.
