How much time must a landlord give a tenant before entering the rental unit for a non-emergency visit?

landlord helpIf you answered 24 hours, you MAY be right — but not guaranteed.

While it is true that in most of the states that have statutes regarding legal entry for landlords, 24 hours is the magic number. But this is not the standard in every state. A handful have different timelines, ranging from two days to whatever is “reasonable under the circumstances.”

In addition, the standard lease that you chose to use may require a longer period than 24 hours.

So, check it out before you enter the premises – and of course, make sure the tenant actually receives prior notice to avoid complaints.
