Homes Near Stadiums Fetch Higher Prices

sport stadiumFans show a willingness to pay more to live near their favorite sports team, which means home owners who live near a sports stadium often can command a premium for their properties.

Realtor.com®’s research team set out to determine which markets fans may be willing to pay the most for. They ranked U.S. cities with at least one major league team by how much it costs to attend a game, how much it costs to near a stadium (the median price of homes within two miles of a stadium), and how much more it costs to live near a stadium compared to the median price of the metro area. The following cities topped its list:

1. Boston, Mass.

  • Median home prices near stadiums: $639,500 to $1.24 million
  • Median metro price: $479,900

2. New York, N.Y.

  • Median home prices near stadiums: $165,000 to $1.85M
  • Median metro price: $425,000

3. Seattle, Wash.

  • Median home price near stadiums: $699,000
  • Median metro price: $432,500

4. Chicago, Ill.

  • Median home prices near stadiums: $265,000 to $425,000
  • Median metro price: $260,000

5. Oklahoma City, Okla.

  • Median home price near stadium: $518,800
  • Median metro price: $219,500

6. San Diego, Calif.

  • Median home prices near stadiums: $545,000 to $895,000
  • Median metro price: $620,000

7. San Francisco, Calif.

  • Median home prices near stadiums: $350,000 to $999,000
  • Median metro price: $830,000

8. Washington, D.C.

  • Median home prices near stadiums: $222,500 to $649,000
  • Median metro price: $425,000

9. New Orleans, La.
