Mark-Taylor Fundraiser Saves Homeless Families

Ongoing Campaign Nets $40,000-Plus for Family Promise So Far

During this holiday season, Scottsdale’s preeminent multifamily developer Mark-Taylor is thankful for the opportunity to share its blessings with those less fortunate, in particular families facing economic crisis.

The company recently gave 12 months free rent to a single mom and her children as part of The Great Give campaign in partnership with Family Promise. In addition to this gift, one of many gifts of free rent the company has given away over the years, the company has raised nearly $50,000 for the organization through fundraising events and an online raffle. The fundraiser sells “opportunities” to win 12 months free rent in a Mark-Taylor luxury community for every $5 donation made to Family Promise.

“Our partnership with Family Promise was a natural one, with them being adjacent to one of our soon to open developments,” said Mark-Taylor Marketing Director Kim Atkinson. “Our communities are all about luxury living, yet this organization sees families every day that are doing what they can just to maintain a livelihood. We knew we could help them.”

Through its relationship with Family Promise, Mark-Taylor learned of the struggles of Gilbert resident Tia Simpkins, a single mom of three who turned to the organization for help when she was unemployed and struggling to provide for her family. Mark-Taylor surprised Simpkins recently with a new, fully furnished and equipped luxury apartment at its Arboretum at Ahwatukee community. Simpkins’ existing apartment lease was soon to expire and she was looking for other options, as her current apartment was too expensive and far from her new job as a certified nursing assistant.

“We’ve never had a company who has come to us and offered something like this,” said Family Promise Executive Director Ted Taylor.

This is not the first time Mark-Taylor has given families a new lease on life. Over the course of the company’s 25-plus year history it has given away rent to dozens of at-risk families, many who continue to reside in the community that supported them when they needed it most.

Mark-Taylor was the primary sponsor of Family Promise’s “Cardboard City” event, contributing dollars, volunteers and marketing resources to help the organization reach its $40,000 goal. The company has promoted its “Great Give” fundraiser at every event it has attended this fall, including the Scottsdale Polo Championship and Gilbert’s Rock the Block.

Those who wish to participate in the ongoing fundraising can buy tickets through the The Great Give Phoenix or Las Vegas donation sites directly, or link from mark-taylor.com. The sites are also accessible via each organization’s Facebook page. The fundraiser will continue throughout the fall and holiday season, ending January 30.

All proceeds benefit Family Promise of Greater Phoenix and Family Promise of Las Vegas, both non-profit organizations that are dedicated to reducing family homelessness by providing shelter, case management, assistance and life skills training so families can gain self-sufficiency.

Mark-Taylor is consistently recognized as a leader and innovator in the multifamily industry and has developed and built more multifamily properties in Arizona than any other company. Its managed properties, located in Arizona, Nevada and Washington, maintain high per-unit values, due to the company’s concentrated focus on high-quality service, marketing and building community. Mark-Taylor is continually ranked one of the top workplaces in Arizona and among the Top 100 Most Admired Companies. Learn more at mark-taylor.com.
